Serbia was the first European country to purchase the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine. The first contingent arrived in January 2021. Details of the deal remain secret and the price paid is still unknown. President Vucic said he had managed to negotiate a more favourable deal for Serbia.

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation on production of the Chinese Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine in Serbia with a Chinese manufacturer and partner from the United Arab Emirates. President Aleksandar Vucic said the plant would be ready by the end of March 2022.
